About Us
Our company roots go back to 1995 when our founder, Mark Brown, began developing an online store (e-commerce wasn't a buzz word yet) called GearShop.com. The site was an online source for rescue and safety equipment. You see, back then Mark was a firefighter and since fighting fires and software development have a lot in common, it made perfect sense to do this. Actually, Mark was a volunteer firefighter on the side and he happened to develop software, on the side, too. Now, lets get back to the story.
We developed GearShop.com on a machine loaded with Windows NT4 and an early version of Microsoft's Active Server Pages. We convinced ourselves that getting a fulltime internet connection was important so that we could keep the web server in house.
Our 56k frame relay circuit offered plenty of bandwidth for the site. After all, hardly anyone had those new polished 56k modems and the ones that did barely stayed connected to the internet. We soon learned that we could purchase a communication server and throw a couple of modems on it to provide our employees with dial-up access.
In 1996, we upgraded our internet connections, got a slew of modems and a bunch of customers. Mark later purchased the company and began providing public dialup connectivity, along with Linux and Windows web hosting and a variety of software development services. Through the years, the company has maintained a close team of employees and customers and still supplies dialup connectivity throughout California.
While maintaining the web hosting and dialup business, weve had the opportunity to work on some great projects. We spent four years developing and maintaining one of the first Customer Relationship Management (CRM) applications for the real estate industry (InteliTouch) and we just finished up some survey-driven CRM software that manages sponsorship opportunities for some really big companies whose products probably exist on the shelves in your home. Along the way we've developed subscriptions based applications, workgroup software, calendaring applications, email clients, skinnable web applications, Multiple Listing Service(MLS) integrations and survey generation software, just to name a few.
